Our journey started back in 2000 when Shakespeare's Corner Shoppe was first opened. A small British grocery shoppe supplying all your favourite British groceries and gifts located at the back of the British pub on India Street in Mission Hills, San Diego. In 2003 the shoppe started to offer Afternoon Tea on the adorable, quaint patio which held just five tables. In 2006 the, then General Manager, Selina Stockley made one of the most amazing decisions of her life and bought the Shakespeare's Corner Shoppe. Selina built the business over the next seventeen year period, so much so that the afternoon tea portion of the business became so sought after with its British style and Themed Teas events that more often than not they were booked up for six months at a time. This is when Selina knew she was onto something and decided it was time to expand and look for a larger location, so she could accommodate all of the guests that she was having to turn away. In 2023 a new location was found at 2323 Midway Drive, San Diego 92110 and the afternoon tea portion of the business was moved and became The Britannia Tearooms.
